Top tips to writing a Twitter Bio

This follows on nicely from the “About Us” page post earlier in the week.

Do you have a proper Twitter bio?

Here is mine :

Mummy * Author * Small Biz Blogger * Charlie Moo’s Party Supplies designer/maker * @LemurLinkup Co-Host * @SageUK Biz Expert * Multi Award Winning * #SBS *

twitter bio

You only have 160 characters so use them wisely!

Go into settings – then profile – scroll down and you will see the bio box. It’s useful to write this on a word doc first so you can mess with the words to maximise your characters and you can see it all at once. OR simply where it says edit profile (next to the DM envelope) click there and you can edit the wording and images.

Write down all the key points you want to make in your bio. This way its easier to work on cutting it down to 160 characters.  Add #hashtags to your bio as this will help you come up in searches.

I use one twitter account for both this blog and Charlie Moo’s – why? Well firstly I’m lazy and don’t want to run more accounts! And secondly I have built up a good following on Twitter and I rarely use it to sell party bags and supplies so for me the mixture of small business and shopping seems to work well. I use Twitter mostly to network with other small businesses. (I also tried having another account for JD and it wasn’t very fruitful just time consuming!) Unlike Facebook where your target audience is looking for one thing at a time. Twitter is much more about developing relationships, branding and being yourself.

Kara from Chelseamamma says : I don’t want an essay – a link to your site, a friendly introduction and a brief snapshot of you. NO EGGS for profile pictures.

Egg images  show that you haven’t taken the time to bother with your profile. Think about whether you want a photo or your logo. I had the Charlie Moo’s cow logo for many years.  Until I realised that I had to tell people who I was at networking events! I soon changed it to a headshot!

Make your bio compelling so to give a reason (or two) for people to follow you. Treat it as your pitch Emma The PR Mummy

Are you happy with your twitter bio? Do you think it says the best about you? Is yours serious or funny? As usual would love to hear! And if you fancy following me on Twitter @CharlieMoos
