Increasing Traffic to Your Website

Build it and they will come” unlike Kevin Costner’s baseball field in Field of Dreams, this isn’t exactly how it works with websites. *sigh* we can but dream! Getting more people to your website should be one of your primary tasks as a business owner. After all, this is the place where they are going to find more information about your products and services, as well as the place where they can buy from you. Essentially, it is a modern day shop window. But with so many other businesses all shouting out for attention, how are you going to stand out from the crowd? Well, here are a few of the main possible answers to this question.

Advertise :

What has always been the traditional way of businesses getting customers to do something? They turn to advertising! Of course, we have moved away somewhat from the world of magazine ads and billboards (although these still have their role to play) and into a world of social media and online advertising. But with so many different paid channels out there these days, you need to make sure that you go for one which converts your browsers into customers in the most effective way possible. Whenever you are engaging in online advertising, it is always worth monitoring the results carefully to ensure that you are having the type of impact that you are intending.

Use Your Social Channels :

A major part of ranking well on search engines these days involves the regular production of content. If you need more assistance with your SEO, you can read more here. But it is not enough to write regularly and assume that people are going to stumble across your words. You need to be proactive in actually pushing that content out there. So, you should be shouting about anything new on your website via your social media channels. Facebook and Twitter tend to be the most effective of these, but Google+ can also help your site to show in personalised search results.

Write Enticing Headlines :

Writing headlines has always been something of an art form, but it is especially important these days. Without a decent headline which sums up what you are saying in the article in a short and snappy way, even the best written of blogs is going to remain sadly unread. So, experiment with different headlines to see which ones are resonating with your audience. It is also highly important that you use keywords as well.

Mix Up Your Content :

Rather than simply writing the same old content, again and again, you need to vary up what you are putting out there on your website. So, you should be aiming to vary both the length and the format of the articles as possible to make it suitable for different types of reader.  Photo and video content can also be useful in attracting a different type of audience as well.

    Hi Jo

I think one of your previous posts mentioned other great ways of getting your website more visible…using relevant keywords, labelling images and being personal and personable in the images that you use and in your style of writing. Whilst we try and keep a semi-straight face for our main business pages (we build websites do lead gen stuff) we really try and let our personality out via our blogs. Website creation and optimising pages aren’t particularly glamourous subjects, but necessary if you want your business to thrive. Finding different perspectives and angles (easier said than done!) will also help draw in a crowd and keep people reading and hopefully, eventually buying your products and/or service.
