Scheduling Blog Posts

Scheduling blog posts will not only enable you to free up time but to take control over your blog. If you find yourself floundering over what to do with your blog here are a few tips. I prepare all my posts on www.joannedewberry.co.uk for a month in a day.

  • Aim to ‘post’ 3 articles a week (12 per month)
  • Decide 12 topics (or even ask 3 or 4 people for guest posts! This helps considerably if you struggle to write and can give you starting points for your follow on blog)
  • Write down notes for each topic and if you can go for it and write 200-400 words about it.
  • If your not using a blog platform that allows you to schedule posts then write them as word documents get your diary out and write down dates your going to post them and times in the day. Make it sensible though, weekends aren’t ideal, after 3pm and not on the day your out at a craft fair etc .
  • If your not writing business posts decide if you want people to know the name of your children, husband and details about your life. If you don’t keep it consistent, using the same nicknames in each post.
  • If your blog is integrated onto your main website (if you sell a product or service for example) ensure you use your keywords and hyper link to your product/service/main website.

These are just tips, if something happens to you, your business or is topical in the news then run with it out of schedule its better to post lots than nothing at all.

Blogging is all about time management, if blogging isn’t your main business then you NEED to schedule blogging in making it part of your routine. I spend one day a month on my blog. This may not work for you and you will need to find your balance, but if you already have your list of topics ready you have a good starting point and aren’t staring at a blank screen thinking .. humm.

Don’t think about it as a chore. Remember what a blog will add to your website in terms of traffic, interest, interaction with potential customers and hopefully generating more business for you.

    Dear Joanna,

I recently started a blog, and have so far struggled to get organized about it. The tips in this post are just what I needed – thank you, I will make sure to implement them in my blog project going forward 🙂
