I had a great question come via email the other day which I answered then forgot about, until the same question came up again. So it got me thinking that maybe more of you would just like to know :
How do I make the most out of promoting my guest blogs that I do?
There are a few ways …
- A Published Articles Page : I use mine to link back to guest blogs or articles I have written including my monthly Britmums Round-up. I also add jpegs of magazine articles (always ask the journo for a pdf copy of any articles as you can easily make a jpeg and then create a gallery) and any graphics designed to promote my content or Q&A sessions I do, like the Aldermore example below. A published articles page is a really good way to collate everything in one place. It’s great for SEO as it’s rich in backlinks and it helps to provide examples of your work to others. If you are writing a blog to become an expert in your genre then a published articles page will do just that.

- Your Own Blog : There is no reason you can’t use the same article on your own website however Google doesn’t like duplicate content so ensure you either state it was published … here first with a backlink or change 25% of the content. I personally add a new introduction and in the conclusion states it was published somewhere else first. This technique is useful as 1) it populates your own blog and 2) if a website shuts down then you haven’t lost a great article/guest post.
- LinkedIn : I don’t use this platform enough but LinkedIn is great for re-purposing blog content as long as you remember to say that it was originally published on …. they you are good to go. This is a great way of reaching a new audience with the same article.
- Screen shots : Some people choose to have a page of screen shots or add images in their sidebars.
- Link back : Others choose to link to guest articles on their own articles of a same genre, just as you usually would deep link to other content you have written within your site.
Personally, I would always suggest a published article page as this increases your ‘expertness‘ and provides you with a really comprehensive list of guest blogs, magazine contributions and acts like a portfolio when pitching for work.
