£5 advertising challenge ….

“You only have £5 to spend on promoting your business what would you do?”

(Let’s tackle this as in we already have flyers, business cards etc …)

Some of you will be reading that statement and straight away your mind is thinking about traditional advertising strategies. So lets get rid of them straight away and then move on innovative ideas.

  • Most shops/newsagents etc .. with noticeboards will charge 40p a week to put up a flyer.  So if you put a notice up for 4 week you’d have enough money to do 3 shops with 20p left over.
  • £5 could be used for petrol money to drive you to a suitable area to do a flyer drop for your business.
  • Join a small business membership forum such as MumpreneurUK or Mumsclub £5 per month – access to business tools/advertising /online networking etc ..
  • Go to a face to face Networking Group – I got to one that is for Women in Management its £5 for 2 hours plus refreshments.  Great opportunity to learn, meet new people, hand out business literature
  • Make a new business buddy – invite a local business for a cuppa tea.  Most coffee shops have free wifi.

    great ideas! I have put into my plan for 2012 to go to more networking groups, some thing I have always been to shy to do.

    p.s. if I’m allowed £5 a month then maybe I’d be better saving it for four months and booking a business pep talk with you!

    Lots of great ideas! The smaller stuff can often be overlooked but promotion doesn’t have to cost the earth thankfully. =)

    I would go to Starbucks/Costa, buy myself a huge hot chocolate (with cream) and a cake with the £5, then use their free wifi to put a comment on a fabulous business blog run by a very good friend of mine, including a link to my website…

    All very good ideas. Beats my ‘waiting for Google to send me another free Adwords voucher’ current advertising strategy 🙂

    I too am to shy to go to networking groups, yet know I should!! I do the local shop with a flyer, think ours is 50p plus I try and put a flyer on the free notice boards!

      mots networking groups Gemma are full of people like you who are shy and out of their comfort zone just takes practice!

    Some good ideas there Joanne.

    Gemma, it is a shame you feel to shy to go to networking groups on your own. Where are you based?

    Taking that first step is always the most difficult, but the more you do it, the more confident you will feel.

    Take time to introduce yourself to the organiser beforehand and they will help you feel at ease when you do turn up to a meet .. good luck!! x

    I’d make something for £5 and run a give away of the item in a way that engages people online and offers a lovely little reward to the people who share my content / site and refer work to me. I already pay a good commission on referrals and offer people either half price design work for their own business or they can ‘earn their design’ for free by promoting my biz online. Everyone wins and it’s not a one way street as I will promote them back too. The good thing about doing a little give away as a reward is if you can ‘give’ something of your own biz or products that hardly costs you any actual money it will prove an effective and inexpensive incentive for others to jump on board and be your unofficial sales team! xx
