Will you be joining the Revolution??

You might have seen the new Co-Op adverts launched last week … no not the ones with the hubby and wife chatting about spending more time together and less time shopping!!!!   The one which talks about the Rochdale Pioneers, who established the first successful co-operative in 1844.  They started a revolution which is still going strong today.  (very much like my legacy will 😉 haha well we can all dream!!)

Today in the UK, as well as The Co-operative Group with its six million members and 5,000 outlets across its family of businesses including food, financial services, travel, pharmacy and funerals, there are thousands of other co-operators who share the same heritage.

The aim of the campaign is to highlight The Co-operative’s ethical credentials and features real life people and groups that we have empowered to bring their own revolutions to life.

You might be surprised as much as I was about how business related they are.  I knew the Co-Op offered business banking but I wasn’t aware of the training and advice that was available.  Which in the early stages are so vital! The Oxford Cycle Workshop is a community-owned enterprise that sells recycled bicycles.  By advantaging of the free business advice and support offered by The Co-operative Enterprise Hub The Oxford Cycle Workshop was able to  expand its service to local people.  The Enterprise Hub connected the Workshop’s founders with the right people to advise them on how to move forward as a business, and to achieve their long-term goals.  And as anyone in business knows this is crucial and the fact that its free can only be beneficial.

Thanks to the great advice and contacts The Oxford Cycle Workshop has now established a training centre that hosts cycle skills events and tailored maintenance programmes. They also hold workshops in community centres, and work with schools and organisations like the Youth Offending Service.  All with the central aim of making cycling accessible for everyone in Oxford.  GREAT NEWS!! You can watch their video case study online … very inspiring.

And if that hasn’t got you thinking about contacting the Co-op then check this out! They have 5 x £5,000 for  community groups to apply for who can show that have achieved something:-

  • Benefiting the community
  • Combating climate change
  • Inspiring young people
  • Tackling global poverty

So take a gander at The Co-operative website and maybe you can even Join the revolution and Get involved today!!
