This follows on nicely from the “About Us” page post earlier in the week.
Do you have a proper Twitter bio?
Here is mine :
Mummy * Author * Small Biz Blogger * Charlie Moo’s Party Supplies designer/maker * @LemurLinkup Co-Host * @SageUK Biz Expert * Multi Award Winning * #SBS *
You only have 160 characters so use them wisely!
Go into settings – then profile – scroll down and you will see the bio box. It’s useful to write this on a word doc first so you can mess with the words to maximise your characters and you can see it all at once. OR simply where it says edit profile (next to the DM envelope) click there and you can edit the wording and images.
Write down all the key points you want to make in your bio. This way its easier to work on cutting it down to 160 characters. Add #hashtags to your bio as this will help you come up in searches.
I use one twitter account for both this blog and Charlie Moo’s – why? Well firstly I’m lazy and don’t want to run more accounts! And secondly I have built up a good following on Twitter and I rarely use it to sell party bags and supplies so for me the mixture of small business and shopping seems to work well. I use Twitter mostly to network with other small businesses. (I also tried having another account for JD and it wasn’t very fruitful just time consuming!) Unlike Facebook where your target audience is looking for one thing at a time. Twitter is much more about developing relationships, branding and being yourself.
Kara from Chelseamamma says : I don’t want an essay – a link to your site, a friendly introduction and a brief snapshot of you. NO EGGS for profile pictures.
Egg images show that you haven’t taken the time to bother with your profile. Think about whether you want a photo or your logo. I had the Charlie Moo’s cow logo for many years. Until I realised that I had to tell people who I was at networking events! I soon changed it to a headshot!
Make your bio compelling so to give a reason (or two) for people to follow you. Treat it as your pitch Emma The PR Mummy
Are you happy with your twitter bio? Do you think it says the best about you? Is yours serious or funny? As usual would love to hear! And if you fancy following me on Twitter @CharlieMoos
Ohhhh thank you!! Il take a good look at this later and see if mine needs some tweaks! Will also check out the about us blog as mine is terrible at the mo!!!
Thank you for the great hints! I’m learning as I go with Twitter and Facebook 🙂

it’s so useful in twitter searches
Hey Joanne, Great post on the twitter profile.
It’s definitely having me think about some things. I have my picture on my profile but only links to my business pages. I added my logos for my businesses to my profile cover.
My I have some good followers and those who are connecting with me but thinking I need to be more creative and compelling.
I did a consultation with a gal who suggested I have a different twitter for each of my businesses but not sure I have time to manage several twitter accounts. Perhaps creativity is going to be my key. Also using the @ instead of entire links to where I want people to go is better if I do use separate twitter accounts for some of my businesses adventures.
I’d appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Cindy
I’d love to hear your thoughts, Joanne on what I’ve shared. Thank you
I totally agree. I tend to communicate mostly with colleagues on Twitter. It a great place to share other’s content and it makes it easy to inform them that you are sharing it.
