What working environment makes us most productive?

If you’re running a small business or freelancing, office space is probably something that just hasn’t crossed your mind. Although working from home (or in your pyjamas! *cough* this isn’t me *cough*) can sound like a dream come true, you may find your productivity slips.

There are plenty of alternative workspace options for solopreneurs, that can help to boost happiness and productivity. Let’s take a look at a few of these options…

Coffee shops :

coffee shops

Local coffee shops are the staple home-from-home for many solopreneurs. Being around other people can help to alleviate some of the solitude of working alone, and earwigging on conversations can provide welcome distraction!

Though, if you’re a fan of peace and quiet whilst working, the hustle and bustle of coffee shops might not be conducive to good quality work. If you choose to work from a local cafe, you also strike up friendships with other freelancers or entrepreneurs, and of course, an unlimited supply of coffee certainly doesn’t go amiss either!

Working from home :

Although working from home is probably the easiest (and cheapest!) option available, it’s not always the best. Distractions are plentiful, for example,TV, housework and food (my fridge is always shouting me!) . Not only this, it’s all too easy to skimp on work when no one else is checking up on you. If only your do to list shouted abuse, motivation at you!

Working from home can also be a little lonely, although Twitter and Facebook have plenty of freelancer chats and groups so you don’t miss out on the water cooler discussion! Being at home is also a good option if you have young children, or other personal commitments to work around.

Co-working spaces :

team workCo-working spaces are a relatively new addition to the workspace lineup. They are fully serviced workspaces, with monthly or daily passes available for you to use a desk, and all the amenities. Although not often formal, a co-working space can help to get you in the right mindset for work and help you to network with other businesses and entrepreneurs. Many co-working spaces, such as Accelerate Places, provide wider business support and events which will help you to grow and develop your business.

If you’re looking to switch up your workplace, the above options could provide a great alternative, and help to boost your productivity too!

I personally prefer a mix of all of these. But what’s your preference? How do you make the most out of your productivity when you’re self employed?
