It’s only a matter of time(line)

Facebook is changing all Businesses pages to the new timeline format.
Although the format is still optional for profiles it won’t be for pages.
Some businesses will already have changed – Charlie Moo’s & JoanneDewberry.co.uk have until 30th March before it’s defaulted plenty of time to play ūüôā

There are still a few glitches I’ve changed mine over but still have issues with a few bits and pieces, but I have found the feedback section excellent and my queries have been quickly answered or adjusted.

TimeLine what you need to know.
OK so it well looks different to the old format. You have space at the top for a cover image (850×315 pixels) but Facebook has stipulated –

How should I choose a cover photo for my Page?
Use a unique image that represents your Page. This might be a photo of a popular menu item, album artwork or a picture of people using your product. Be creative and experiment with images your audience responds well to.

  • Cover images must be at least 399 pixels wide and may not contain:
  • Price or purchase information, such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page’s About section
  • References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it now” or “Tell your friends”

All cover images are public, which means anyone visiting your Page will be able to see the image you choose. Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties’ intellectual property. You may not encourage or incentivize people to upload your cover image to their personal timelines

Which means you can’t add website addresses etc unfortunately, which seems a bit silly but also means my instantly recognisable blog banner is a no-no. ¬†Here is my ‘cover image’ adapted from my blog.

I also like that you can edit the image and the name of the tabs, so make them inviting to click! (tab images are 111×74 px) some are a bit glitchy, so keep trying and be patient. ¬†To edit the tabs go to edit page, click on apps – pick the app you require. ¬†Go into edit settings and you will see a box that gives you the option to change image and name.

Fanpages have new features too: –

  • Pinning Content – you are now able to ‘pin’ posts to the top of the Fanpage Timeline. ¬†Working on an important campaign? It is now possible to ‘pin’ a post to the top of your Timeline. This is a great way to drive traffic to your application page or tab. ¬†Or repost links to the top of the page etc. like if your running a competition.
  • Featured Content – you can now¬†feature content on your Timeline. This will extend the content or image across your entire page width wise; making it more prominent – great for announcements or important images.
  • Private Messages – you are also now able to conduct private emails with your fans. ¬†Great for customer issues or private queries – no longer need to be hunting through the page for their email.

There are lots of great new features to the fanpage but I don’t like that the wall content is either page or likers – I must¬†preferred¬†the comments¬†integrated. ¬†It gives new fans the¬†chance¬†to see what customers actually think about your business and how you interact with them.
