How to be a Blog Ninja!

There is so much information out there now on blogging and so many people doing it that it can be a bit overwhelming. If you don’t take anything useful away from this post other than BE YOURSELF then I’m winning!  It’s easy to fall into a trap of being told you have to post daily to keep your audience interested. You have to ensure you post on the same day at the same time otherwise they loose interest. But how does this work when you consider that everything you read is always talking about how content is king. Personally if you are trying to churn out posts everyday then eventually you will burn out and start to produce content that maybe you aren’t so happy with.   I prefer to work for weeks sometimes on posts making sure they are the best they can be. Heck! My designing an infographic post took nearly 2 years to complete!

Once you have created content you have to share it with the world too and hey this in itself can be a full time job! Stop stressing about what you should do. Stop worrying about what others do. Just do what you do! Because you are the best version of yourself!

Here are my tips for developing content and becoming a blog ninja!

Mind mapping :

Mind mapping is a posh term for brain dump … literally dumping all the information in your brain on a piece of paper! I like to see mine visually, lots of colours and doodles. I know others prefer lists do what ever you like but giving yourself the chance to make notes and ask yourself questions you can soon build yourself up a content library.

Reconstructing and repurposing old posts :

We all have them, posts that we wrote 5 years ago and think GAH! As your writing skills have developed there is no reason not to go back through and edit. Look at posts that were originally competitions, consider removing the gleam or rafflecopter factor and adding more valuable content.  Also take time to go back through previous posts and create more Pinterest friendly images.  (Psst did you know that pic monkey now has a crop option for Pinterest pin!? Oh yes it does! Great for those of us who aren’t great with the design aspect!)

LinkedIn is a great platform to repurpose previous content that has done well, is still relevant and needs a boost. Remember to add a link before or after that it originally appeared on your blog.

Try Stuff :

We are all always trying new ways to market our business or new ways to excel with Facebook or Klout. When I have these sessions I take lots of screen shots and notes which I later use to write a post. For example Increase Your Bloglovin Followers in a Month (and although I haven’t kept some of these up the actual month I spent still see regular new followers popping by) and How I increased my Facebook Reach in a Week which I am still using and have kept my reach over 3K even in the holidays (winning!).

Reading :

Reading other peoples content is not only good practice as it keeps you up to date with your genre, but if you take the time to read, tweet or comment on others they will be more inclined to do the same as you build a community. Reading also gets your creative juices flowing and develop ideas for your own content and gives you something to try.

Facebook questions :

We all know writing questions on Facebook is suppose to be good for your reach. We also know that all the replies can be a great resource for writing blog content. I used replies on Facebook to construct this post about writing reviews.  Facebook is a wealth of knowledge and you have so many different mediums at your finger tips.

Sharing :

This in fact could be a post in itself so I’m going to keep it short and sweet. You need to promote your content by sharing it on social media. How you choose to do this is ultimately up to you! I’ve lots of relevant posts so do check out the following :

Hi Joanne, great post. I think it’s a really great idea to repurpose old blog posts. I see what got a lot of interest and then create a whole new post with a different twist where I can.

I also look at what isn’t working and try to edit and make better.
