If you, like many other parents, find it difficult to get your child to put away their toys and study, you’re not alone. Homework as we know is essential for good grades. Any work that you do with your child for that matter which practices the skills and fundamentals that their teaching will help them to make significantly more progress at school. The difficulty is that learning doesn’t seem as “fun” or appealing. To learn more about home learning and how to motivate children, we spoke with an online school that shared their tips.
Encouraging Your Child to Study at Home:
Games and Fun Learning Activities:
Sometimes you have to think a little more tactically. Speak in a way that they understand. If your child enjoys playing video games, why not find a way to turn the topics that they’ve been learning about into fun activities like these? You can create a card sort or a game like snap. Or if you’re all out of ideas, there are plenty of interactive educational games that you can find online.
This sort of activity works well because it’s engaging and doesn’t feel like work. You may have also heard of learning styles. It concerns how we learn best and it’s different for all children. Some are kinaesthetic which means that they tend to work better when given the opportunity to put what they’ve learned into practice or something a little more hands-on like this.
Create a Study Schedule:
It’s important to remember that they are also just children. They will want to play and put off their work. A schedule is something that can be created to implement balance. Create times that work for them when they will do their work. It’s an agreement so they must stick to it. Once they’ve completed their work, you must also keep to your end of the bargain and allow them to spend their free time as you’ve agreed. Over time this routine will become a norm and it will eventually become a habit that they’re used to.
Don’t Leave Them to Their Own Devices:
Children get distracted easily, especially when younger. By sitting with them whilst they do their work, you can make sure that it is completed and offer help if they need it.
These are just a few suggestions. There are also other options that you may choose to explore like help from a qualified tutor or school homework club.
