When compiling 7 life hacks for working parents anything that reduced the amount of time during the working day food related is always a winner. Nobody wants to spend their working day shopping or cooking (or in my case cleaning!) but when you are working around a family then needs must. Most nights after school we have some form of activity whether that’s swimming, dancing, Scouts or football, we usually don’t get home until 5/5:30pm. This means I’ve developed a loving relationship with my slow cooker.
Slow cookers are the best! You literally bung your items in and let it work it’s magic! I think the secret to a great meal is in the “slow” cooking process it allows all the flavours to develop and get to know each other. I’m partial to a chuck it in and see what happens kind of dinner. Because quite frankly that’s how I roll. Slow cookers are great for using up any odds and ends in the fridge – random mushroom, baby sweetcorn, that splash of wine so it doesn’t look like you nailed the whole bottle in one night!
I’ve complied a list of 7 slow cooker recipes to feed your family in style for a week! I know good eh!
BBQ Pulled Pork Loins :
How amazing does this look! LarabeeUK suggestion of serving the pulled pork with coleslaw and bread rolls makes it even quicker to prepare when you get home.
Lentil Ragu :
I’ve not cooked with lentils before but not are they only a cheaper alternative, they are healthier and fill you up for longer. Great for those long cold autumnal nights. The Life of Spicers blog has some great low cost food recipes.
Easy Chicken Stew :
Stew has to be a Winter staple and this recipe from Baby Not Include is lush! Chorizo and chicken are a perfect combination. I never think to add fresh herbs before serving as I usually add dried one in the cooking stage.
Hunters Chicken :
A meal using 4 ingredients! You heard right! A Strong Coffee’s Hunters Chicken recipe is right up my street! Chicken and bacon are a match made in food heaven.
Pork and Apple Casserole
Can’t get your children to eat veggies then why not try this dish with fruit! Apples are such a great accompaniment for pork but I’d never thought to put them in the slow cooker. Look forward to trying this out. I like Chelseamamma’s style too pork is best served with cider!
Brisket Beef Chilli
I’m not a fan of chilli but I’m not adverse to cooking things like this for everyone else. Daddy Moo, Megan and Charlie love a bit of spice in their lives. I love that this recipe uses a under rated piece of beef.
Chicken Curry :
Anything that has a 5 minute prep time is a winner with me! This chicken curry from KatyKicker looks so good. I’m sure Charlie could rustle this up in the morning before school.
Loving these recipes as much as me?
They why not pin for later :

Most welcome
Ohh thanks for this. I’d always imagined slow cookers were useless to vegetarians, I mean who loves overcooked veg 😀 But I see the lentil recipe there and now I’m tempted.
