If you have a copy of my calender (still a few available) you have probably already been thinking about your 3 goals for 2012.
Goal setting is really important to your motivation as well as ensuring your business has direction. So why not take a few minutes to read and take action on my extract from JoanneDewberry.co.uk 2012 Calender
Make January start with a bang!Motivating yourself in January can be difficult. So reflect on what you have achieved in the previous year and set yourself goals. Ensure your targets are MARTS targets.
M – measurable
A – AGREEABLE nurturing the key relationships of all the people involved to make the target more achievable.
R – RESOURCES – list all the things you need to achieve your target making it more realistic.
T – time bound.
S – specific
Write below three things you want to have achieved by 1st January 2013 and refer back to it throughout the year.

Hi Joanna – Happy New Year (in a couple of days time),
Before I start thinking about sharing my goals for the coming year, I was wondering why you chose to use MARTS as your mnemonic rather than the more conventional SMART? Anyhoo…
Although I’ve been doing what I do for over a decade now, my actual business is still a 6mth fledgling and so my goals (those that aren’t related to the health and well-being of my family) all tend to be related to it’s growth and in the current climate, survival…
1. Get my website up and running by Easter (OK, so I’ve set myself a non-too-stretching deadline for this but I’m investing my hard-earned cash of which I don’t have much, so I want to make sure it’s absolutely right. I’m designing it too…)
2. Stage a nationally significant conference in Bournemouth before the end of the year. Last year I produced http://www.meetdrawpresents.com and I intend to do it, but bigger and better. I gave myself 6 months last year and that was a tough deadline, so this year I’m giving myself 9mths…
3. Acquire 2 new non-creative clients. Alongside the creative industry consultancy I provide, I also offer an ongoing outsourced marketing and design management service. I want two more clients signed up to this service before the new financial year…
Non-work related my goals are:
1. Get #1 son eating properly (he’s 3 and a half and far too fussy for someone his age);
2. Get #2 son sleeping through the night;
3. Get the snip to prevent any chance of a surprise #3 son!
M
OK so my 3:
1) Bring out own publication.
2) Start a new type of class (more training involved).
3) Run a bigger and better charity event and make annual thing!
Wish me luck, excited!
Here are my three goals:
1) Help more mums in business achieve their full potential
2) Earn enough money to move to a bigger house
3) Write a book
Hope I achieve these!!!
Hi Joanne thanks for this post. As this year draws to a close it’s always good to reflect and see what I achieved and what I would have done differently. Looking at what you have said about resources I never would have achieved anything without my wonderful family but I have to consider the impact on them of everything I do, because there’s always a cost.
If I was to set my first goal it would be to
1. Consider my family first before taking on new ventures and take time to plan and organise myself better.
2. Make time to exercise each day and develop a healthier lifestyle.
3. Save up for a family holiday abroad in the summer as we haven’t had one for over five years.
Wow you guys!!
These are awesome goals and I believe that you will all achieve these. You haven’t put time scales on some of them sometimes it can be more motivating to give yourself a specific deadline.
Good Luck and keep these safe I’ll be back soon to hound you 😉
