Are your pins rich?

A while ago I was reading a blog post that mentioned that Pinterest Savvy: Strategies, Plans, and Tips to Grow Your Business with Pinterest was free on Kindle over the weekend. (It’s under £3 to purchase and well worth that small investment as you get access to worksheets from the Pinterest Savvy site.) I took a punt as I hear all these amazing stories about American bloggers who’s largest source of traffic comes directly from Pinterest and I’m still struggling with it.

After reading a few pages it was apparent where I was going wrong. Pinterest isn’t just about annotations and pretty pictures (although that really does help) you need to get your head around the fact it’s not a social media platform but a search engine. One thing I had no idea about was rich pins. A quick look on my Harry Potter Party Board and it was obvious to me that those posts that I had found via Google searches were indeed “rich pins”.

Rich pins are pins from your website which get extra promotion – now wouldn’t we all like that!

You can see that not only does it state your website as the source but your favicon (logo) is shown, the title is a bold-type headline and the first few lines from the post where the image has been pinned from.

How To Get Rich Pins?

Follow this link : https://developers.pinterest.com/rich_pins/validator/ chose ANY post from your small business blog.

I choose How to maximise the share potential of images as its a popular pinned post but I don’t think this really matters.

Click validate and wait.

It can take up for a month to be approved but it is well worth the wait. If you go check out one of your boards and have a quick scan those rich pins you are instantly drawn too.

So what are you waiting for?
